In 2008, FORM launched the Let's Get Started! program, offering painting workshops for Indigenous Artists living in South Hedland. Since then, the group has been coming together every month for week-long sessions with mentors Helen Ansell and Sara Barnes.
The Spinifex Hill collective is currently composed of 15 artists, creating beautiful, unique and accomplished work. They have already developed both a recognisable style as a collective, and distinct individual styles.
Four of the artists just returned from a week in Perth for Revealed: a showcase of emerging indigenous artists. As a part of this artists from across WA had the opportunity to be involved in a range of creative workshops run over two days. Both Winnie and Ann enjoyed getting their hands into the clay in the ceramics workshops, while Esther tried her hand at some innovative glass designs and Irene learnt how to operate her camera in photography. At the same time Sara Barnes and myself (Karina) were also able to attend some organisational sessions which were also beneficial for us.
